What to expect from a mystery holiday on Antigua
As you might expect, many of Antigua’s hotels and resorts are located on its coast, so you’ll only ever be a short distance from soft sand beaches that number one for every day of the year. Check out the popular Half Moon or Dickenson bays for starters.
If that’s not enough natural beauty for you, you’ll want to make a stop at Devil’s Bridge too, a natural limestone arch slung across crashing waves in a national park of the same name. The main city of St John’s is the place to soak up the local vibes, while English Harbour is the location of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Nelson’s Dockyard.
You can get an excellent view of English Harbour from the restored military outpost on Shirley Heights, which is also the place for one of the island’s best-known parties on a Sunday night.
Good to know before you go to Antigua
The best option for uncovering all the island has to offer is to hire a car, which can be done at the international airport when you arrive. Having your own vehicle saves you the hassle of dealing with public transport, and gives you more freedom than you’d get on any organised tour.
Be careful when prices are quoted in dollars. The island uses the East Caribbean Dollar (worth about £0.30) but many businesses on Antigua also accept payments in the US dollar, and may quote you prices in US dollars as a foreign visitor. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted.
British passport holders don’t need a visa to visit Antigua. You’ll be granted permission to stay the length of your mystery holiday. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your arrival, and rules might be different for those with passports issued by other nations.
