Thumbs up for the Costa Brava
If you’re lucky enough to find yourself heading to Spain’s Costa Brava for your mystery holiday, it’s time to get ready for a memorable two night stay in either Girona or the Catalan coast.
While much of this ‘wild coast’s’ attention tends to be focussed on its 185 mile-long Mediterranean shoreline, a mystery holiday to the Costa Brava will also reveal idyllic countryside and a fine climate for most of the year.

What to expect with a mystery Holiday to Spain’s Costa Brava
Whether you end up on a mystery holiday to either Girona or the Catalan coast, you’ll be on your way to two nights of Mediterranean delights. We’ve given you a flavour of what to expect in each destination below.

Get to know Girona
Situated within shouting distance of the French border, Girona sits at the confluence of four rivers. As a result, much of its history was focussed on seafaring and fishing until holidaymakers desperate for sun, sea and the rest came a-knocking in the 1950s.
One of Europe’s most underrated city break destinations to our mind, you’ll want to head straight for Girona’s Old Town. Located on a steep hill, you’ll certainly want your trainers in tow to check out unmissable sights including the cathedral and historic fortifications.
The Onyar River is also particularly attractive, with buildings (or casas) dating from as early as the 17th century providing a formidable backdrop to river tours.

CATCH THE RAYS ON THE CATALAN COAST
The quietest area of Catalonia by tourist footfall, head to the Catalan coast and you’re just as likely to bump into an elderly fisherman as you are another holidaying Brit.
Blending small, traditional fishing villages with little-known coves and coastal landscapes of dramatic sea cliffs, the secret of the Catalan coast is slowly leaking out. If you’re partial to swimming in turquoise waters, taking a gentle hike through pine-scented forest or checking out Cap de Creus Nature Reserve, then have your fingers crossed for a stay right here.
What better way to end a day or two of exploring the region than tucking in to some fine traditional Catalan cuisine? That’s what makes a mystery holiday to the Catalan coast so special.
Good to know before you go to the Costa Brava
The Costa Brava is almost inundated with excellent beaches that are ideal for a couple of days of relaxation. However, there are plenty of water sports and hiking opportunities on offer too. Meanwhile, should you have your heart set on a particular restaurant you’ve heard great things about, be sure to book a table. Early evenings tend to be easiest to find as the Spanish eat notoriously late!
