A chance for the Spanish Riviera
We Brits have been heading to the Spanish Riviera since the advent of cheap international air travel. So why change what’s basically become a UK tradition?
Find yourself on a mystery holiday to the Spanish Riviera and you can look forward to an extraordinary two-night stay in either Tarragona, Almería or the Cartagena area including Murcia.
Each are worthy of your attention. To find out exactly why you can check out our mini-guide to the Spanish Riviera below. If you need more info on how mystery holidays work, you can find that by clicking right here.

What to expect with a mystery Holiday to Spanish Riviera
Tarragona, Almería or Cartagena with Murcia? This trio of shoreline destinations on the Spanish Riviera provide not one, not two, but three options for slapping on the sunscreen, slipping on the summer wardrobe and enjoying a great time on land and sea over a two night mystery holidays stay.
To get your senses tingling, we’ve given you just a hint at what to expect from each of these wondrous destinations below.

Take on towering Tarragona
Located in Catalonia on the Costa Dorada shores of the Mediterranean, Tarragona offers more than the chance to flop on golden sands to the sound of the lapping waves.
There are plenty of beaches to choose between for anyone looking to do just that. But most travellers to Tarragona will also want to check out its UNESCO-listed archaeological site, incorporating one of the Roman world’s few seaside amphitheatres, and its ‘Devil’s Bridge.’
Time it right, and you might also get to witness a traditional Catalan castell. Better known as human towers, they can top 16 metres in height and are used as a way to celebrate major feast days in the city’s calendar.

Explore the Alcazaba of Almería
Capital of Andalusia, Almería lies on Spain’s southern Mediterranean shores. Predictably for Spain, those lucky enough to find themselves on a mystery holiday to Almería have a wide range of beaches to choose from, with those within Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park particularly deserving.
Almería’s sands extend to Europe’s only true desert – the Tabernas Desert – used in films including Hollywood classic Indiana Jones and the last Crusade.
Meanwhile the city itself is rich in history and culture. The star of the show here is probably the Alcazaba, the name given to the large fortress constructed in the tenth century. Other attractions include Almería Air Raid Shelters, created during the Spanish Civil War to keep the population safe from attack.

Fall for the authenticity of Cartagena
With 3,000 years of history already under its belt, it’s something of a surprise that Cartagena isn’t better known. And as for nearby Murcia, you could say exactly the same thing. But that’s all the better for anyone heading here on a mystery holiday.
Richly authentic, a port vibe stretches from its shores to its inland blocks, where wanderers might find anything from a Roman-era ruin to a grand art nouveau structure built with the proceeds of Cartagena’s mining industry.
Things to do in Cartagena include trips to the 6,000 seat Roman Theatre, only rediscovered in 1988, and the Castillo de la Concepción, offering up superb uninterrupted views across the city. Nature lovers might prefer a visit to Calblanque Regional Park and its landscape of sand dunes.
Meanwhile Murcia is known for its fantastic tapas scene, reputation for sun and fine city centre architecture.
Good to know before you go to the Spanish Riviera
To visit any of the churches or other religious sites in the Spanish Riviera you will want to dress modestly. Both men and women will be expected to have their shoulders and knees covered, and not have their midriff or belly buttons on display.
